Growing Green Children

04.03.2023

We launched the project called "Growing Green Children", which was financially supported by the European Solidarity Corps fund within the framework of Erasmus Plus.

The project is implemented in the kindergarten called Borovska in Karviná. The main goal of the project is to deepen children's relationship with nature through gardening and an interactive program.

At the same time, with this project we contribute to raising awareness of sustainability, permaculture and ecosystems.

We builded an eco-garden through principles of permaculture in an area of a nursery school. By building the life garden we want to learn more about permaculture and environment. Us and our group of volunteers gained competences in non-formal and informal learning methods. We also gained set of competences within leadership and team-management which will be crucial for our future career. We also strengthen motivation for volunteering and solidarity in our community and we want to grow these attitudes in children.

Children as a part of our community are our future and by keeping principles of solidarity which we can build in them and strengthen in us, we did improve quality of life in our city. Last, but not least, by this project we showed solidarity and help to Zakladni and Materska Skola Borovskeho in Karvina get a fund developing its idea and starting concept of a Green nursery school.

Our main objectives are:

- introduce a concept of permaculture to children and public (by building a Life garden in an approved area of ZS and MS Borovskeho )

- gain competences of youth group in the topic and project management process, non-formal learning methods, attitudes towards volunteering (through activities of monthly workshops, planning, evaluating, budgeting, motivation...)

- contribute to community development by intersectoral collaboration (youth, children, schools, NGOs and municipality)

There will be two main target groups. Primary group will be participants as a youth group who would like to promote ecological education through workshops with children and building a life garden in available area of Zakladni and Materska Skola Borovskeho in Karvina

Children are influenced by their environment, especially when being at school. Thus, it is vital to encourage them to take environmental action by highlighting the importance and powers of nature in the school environment.

The main objective of this project was making children eager to find out more about natural processes, the salience of nature and its protection, as well as the main principles of sustainable gardening. Children will also explore the energy invested into growing a vegetable/fruit and thereby, will learn about the background of the food chain. Moreover, the garden will include its compost which will teach children sustainable manners of waste management. Besides this, children will improve their teamwork. The created eco-garden will be then serve as an example for another actions in the city. Another target group are our local partners, citizens who will benefit from our project perfectly. The project will enhance our future collaboration in our future ideas of community development.
